乐队1989年成立于德国法兰克福。
 
没有人能确定其是男是女。  

Varney 童年时常幻觉有精灵相伴，

并称它们为 The Ensemble of Shadows，

成年后 Varney 成为撒旦信徒。

SOPOR AETERNUS 的意思是 Eternal Sleep。

Sopor Aeternus 在拉丁文中意为“永恒沉睡”,即死亡。
 

Sopor Aeternus  始于1989  ，
 

第一张Demo  1992 发行。
 

“Es Reiten Die Totten So Schnell”

意为“亡魂的快速旅行”
 
The Debut、Fufus和Till The Times And Times Are Done

在一起组成了“Blut Der Schwarzer”

意为 黑玫瑰之血 三部曲。

1994，首张专辑正式发布

专辑后面附有一首短诗，
 

“Ich Töte Mich Jedesmal”

意为

“我一次又一次地杀死了自己”。

最近又一次发行。

专辑的歌词英语德语并用，

同时也隐藏了Varney富于诗歌性的、极其个人的创作思路。

他的音乐是十分悲伤的dark wave，却朴实无华。

在他的专辑中可以找到一些歌词创作的线索：

对少年时期的回忆。

Varney在年少时曾有一个他无法追溯的假想中的朋友，

他认为总有一天他们会再次相遇。

“失去的爱人”。

也许是他假想中的朋友。

也许是他幼年时代失去的朋友。

他不止一次的提及此人是同性恋者。

早期的专辑中  ，得知

此人死亡。

在“Dead Lover’s Sarabande（Face Two）”中

可以了解到他是如何死亡的。

有的时候他见到了“一个老人”，这个老人似乎是上帝。

也许这也是他幻想中的朋友

在性别问题面前踌躇不前。

最终以特殊的方式接受了现实。

“我看见我的生殖器正在腐烂”

“颤抖   颤抖   颤抖，另一面将苏醒”

精神上的挫折，经常用众所周知的传统方式表达，

或用他自己的语言描述。
